All Points Bulletin

Another feature, this time about a game I’ve been following lately, namely All Points Bulletin(hereafter APB).

I got my first looks at the game very early on, through some site(not sure where) and thought it looked cool and then I lost sight of it for a while until it popped up about a year or so later on some sites just after they won their E3 nominee awards, I saw the trailer(just below here) and got hooked from that moment on…
Before I continue I’ll show you guys the trailer so you get a better picture as to what I am talking about(and yes, I’m also trying to asimmilate you to get hooked….did I just use the word assimilate? ah well, enjoy)

actually this is not the trailer I saw, but I think this one is even better 😀
ves around this city, San Paro, in which all hell has broken loose, the normal police is a corrupt, shambled force not capable of dealing with the enormous explosion in crime. With the most recent outburst’s startpoint laying in the assassination of late Mayor John Derren by Luke Waskawi. In his footsteps his daughter Jane Derren decided she would try to fill her father’s shoes and continue his work of cleaning up the city. After she was elected she quickly saw that the corrupted SPPD wasn’t up to the job, and as such Mayor Jane Derren issued the City Security Act(CSA) so other organizations can help to try and get the city out of it’s misery and once more into the earthly paradise it used to be.
Almost immediately two different Enforcing organizations stood up, the steadfast Preatorians and the knights-in-blazing-armor Prentiss Tigers, after whom many other, smaller organizations took up arms to defend their beloved city. The Preatorians are a well equipped, somewhat corporate Policeforce, led by the bright Justin Teng. These well equipped enforcers are cleaning out the town whereever they go.
The Prentiss Tigers are the media’s favourite, they like to clean the badguys up with flashy moves and actions, all while staying in the spotlight.
On the other side of the bars you have two major Criminal organizations, the G-Kings and the Bloodroses, these foul gangs are big time players and an twisted example to numerous smaller gangs.
It is believed it is basically between these 4 players that the fight will occur unless the crippled police force can back on it’s feet on time. About these two major gangs there is litle known, but what is known is that the G-Kings are a group of thugs rumoured to be from the Gresty neighbourhood and they are trying to pull down the law and everything doing with government, it is rumoured they are supported by the garbage millionaire Arlon Benjamin, but so far the police has failed to get rigid evidence he actually does so.
The other major gang are the Bloodroses, they are a group of wealthy kids, or so is rumoured, operating mainly in the Waterfront District. They are known for their fast and loud heists of the ports in that district.
The individual enforcers(the players) can create their own organizations to support the bigger players, or remain solo should they choose so. The criminals are known to do the same on their side, pledging to the bigger players for support and protection.
But for the rest, there isn’t much of a story, which is great because it let’s players (and clans) create their own story matching up to the bits of story found around the city.

As you might have guessed from my little background story just there I am already picking the enforcer side(must be my Lawful Good alignment…), to make it even better yet, I’ve already sided myself with a already existing clan of Enforcers the San Paro Sheriff’s Departement.
My character I decided I’m going to make, Howard Merten Wolfe, has a Bio already(which is a first to me, making a char before the game) whom joined the SPSD when the search of his brother and sister became to hard to continue with his meager funds. He had heard through some arrested criminal back in his hometown that there was an influx of criminals moving towards San Paro, with the added note he noticed a clear brother and sister looking a bit like him amongst them. The criminal was a recruiter of sorts who lured young thugs, or hopeless, bored youngsters, to San Paro to live a life of crime. As such he quited his local PD and moved out, living of his savings in search of them. With no luck and his funds running out he looked for a job and found one with the SPSD, still able to make a difference to the crimewave in San Paro. He also quickly rose through the ranks to the rank of Sergeant with his own squad below him.
Now for a bit about the SPSD, they are a light to medium RolePlaying Clan, which means they do encourage RolePlay, but it’s not strict or mandatory. This is their story:

The SPSD was first started in the year 1870, around 20 years after the city of San Paro was founded. The SPSD has always had the jursidiction of the City of San Paro and the surrounding area within the County. When the city grew bigger and bigger the SPSD focused more on the surrounding county as a new police force was erected for the city itself, the SPPD.
In the hours after the assassination of John Derren, the city of San Paro was thrown into chaos, and the SPSD was stepped in to take over basic law enforcement as the SPPD slipped into obscurity. The department was spread thin, and the Sheriff quit and left the city. Sheriff Adams was hired by Mayor Derren, and immediately began a recruitment drive. Today, the SPSD effectively allows the citizenry of San Paro to live their lives in safety.

We are a clan that act as a real Sheriff’s Departement, meaning we will get police uniforms and cruisers when the game get’s opened to the bigger public. But, there is a Closed Beta right now, and those of the SPSD who made it in already set it up and we are rumoured to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest of all, enforcer groups. We are even mentioned in the podcast FortheLore by the developers, Chris ‘Deum’ Collins and Stephen ‘Kitkat’ Hewitt around the 23rd minute. They find it cool too see them pulling up in their uniforms and cruisers when they catch the bad guys.
At this point I’d like to point you to the official site and their podcasts if you want to know more. Maybe I will see you all in game, maybe I won’t. Whatever the case, expect to hear more about it in my blogs as it seems like the perfect game for me, combining FPS with a hint of RPG and a good big spoon of MMO.

Now for some songs(there are too many too name, so I selected quite a few, and most are featured in APB):

First off, it’s the bullys of your sound, the Audio Bullys – Gimme That Punk:

Second one is Johny’s got a Boom Boom from Imelda May;

Third off is Ghost of a Thousand – Bright Lights:

The fourth song I really like is beth Rowley – Beautiful Tomorrow:

Fifth up is Boys Noise – Lava Lava (believe me if I say the song’s not as corny as the name of it)

Sixth off is Clutch – Mercury (awesome rock!)

Why I like LEGO

You all know I like LEGO, but not all (if any) knows why I like it, so that is what I am going to try and explain it to you lot (and convert a few souls into bricks while I am at it )

For the ones that don’t know LEGO: (seriously, go shame yourself!) (shamelessly ripped from The Lego Company site)

The name ‘LEGO’ is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt”, meaning “play well”. It’s our name and it’s our ideal.

The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen. The Company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder.

It has come a long way over the past 70 years – from a small carpenter’s workshop to a modern, global enterprise that is now, in terms of sales, the world’s sixth-largest manufacturer of toys.

With that out of the way, back to the question of why I like LEGO so much…
but before I will answer that let me take you through a small tour of the crazy world of the AFOLs, with AFOL standing for Adult Fan Of Lego.
I could try and locate that one awesome picture that would describe it all, but seeing I would get the rage of other categories on my neck I want to show you more of the possibilities of lego:

First off I am going to start with a piece in my favourite category: Castle!

This marvelous piece of a castle is part of a 4 stage MOC taking you through various stages of building a castle, starting off with a small wooden palisade and ending in a full blown castle, the picture to the left being Stage 3.
I posted this stage because of the scaffolding he has done on it.

This category will take you from small to big(with the shown being a upper medium MOC in size, yes, there are whole landscapes, often a collabaration).
If you want small examples, take a look in the gallery on this site, most, if not all, will fall in that category.

The second Category I am going to take you too is the complete opposite: Mecha (Big walking robots)

This awesome piece is created by Mondayn00dle. It was actually one of the first MOCs I ever saw online and I am still liking it.
The techniques he used to create this little beast are stunning if you ask me.
He also did a wonderful job on the colourscheme and small details

In this category you will find LOADS of different MOCs, and a lot of different styles as well, ranging from almost humanlike androids to the steamy monsters of steampunk

Next I am going to scale it up with the SHIP classification, with SHIP standing for Seriously Huge Investments of Parts:

As you can see this thing is quite huge, to be exact(quoted from Cpt. Decius himself):

It is 115 studs long. With the two  antenna’s, it’s 120 studs long. It also has a full interior with 4 bunks, a kitchen, and medical lab, and a captains quarters.

On this MOC I like the exterior colours and the sheerness of the thing. and the greebles (lots of small details)

You can understand that with such big investments in parts there aren’t many of these things around. Most of them contain a big spoon of the Space theme.

Now for something more classical with a normal ship, but one of awesome details:

The ship Marie is a classic looking pirate vessel to hun the Seven Seas of Old, but with a twist. It is only loosely based on the ships you know of the books. I like that loosely based, if I was a pirate I want to have this here ship!
The rounded back and the statue(what was the name for them again) being the two features that pop out and I like.

I suppose this falls in the Pirate theme of LEGO, a theme that will speak to most little boys as soon as they can swing around stuff, yell ARR! and find out that playing the badguy is more fun then policeman!

Now so far I have show you the categories in the toy department(sort of) but that you can do other things with LEGO is something D-Higdon proves with her architecture in LEGO:

This shot of her Water Tower House made back in 2007 show just how cool a good picture can be together with good lighting and a cool MOC

Hell, she has such nice things(and loads of it) that I am going to post another one of hers:

Here she shows a  study in doorways(and how to created a slated roof apparently).
For me, I just think it plain rocks!
And once more the photography is tip top!

In this category I just like the people screwing all scales that exist(Microscale, minifig(the lego puppets), maxifig, etc) and just go with a scale that suits their work best. And they make absolutely stunning creations.

So all in all, I can’t pinpoint it really, best I can get is: the possibilities, the feel of the bricks, it’s awesome coolness or the satifaction you get from getting that balance act for your MOC just right.
Whatever it is, I just really like it.

For those who want to see more MOCs I point you to Brothers Brick

Chewing on paper

Right, must be a first, 2 blogs in one evening.
I will from here on feature some stuff I like or checking out.

And first off is some music Lynn knows quite well, in fact she introduced me to their music.
It is music by Paper Mache, the band of her kid Chris and his friends. You can find them here on myspace I am quite sure they had a site of their own, but I can’t find it.

Whilst writing this feature I am listening to the list on their myspace site. First thing I notice that the singer has a rather distinctive sound to his voice, it sounds a bit down to me, even in the more upbeat songs, like Mixtape though it is not disturbing in any way, if at all it fits in. Hell, like in Proud, it sure sounds like he means it.
As for the guitars, they sound balanced but metallic to me(sorry guys, but I just don’t like that type of guitar your using), the percussion is fitting in nicely (sorry for the rubbish music analysis, not to good at it)

I like listening to some of their songs like Mixtape and Proud (and probably The Vaccine to if it would play) so those are added to my extensive music lists, the rest sounds a bit too much down for my liking.
I will conclude this first attempt of me breaking down some music with the following words to the band:
go on like this and I am sure you guys will make it 🙂
